Review: VDL Beauty Metal Cushion Foundation Long Wear

4:31 PM

Annyeong~ Today I am back with another review featuring VDL's Beauty Metal Cushion Foundation Long Wear

Product Description and Claims

A metal cushion foundation that delivers a 24 hour-lasting, bright and clear skin and provides a glowing radiance through hydro-rich prune water.

  • Long wear that lasts 24H
  • Brightens skin complexion
  • Light fit formula
  • Metallic cooling effect
  • Triple moisture complex
  • SPF 50+PA+++

VDL also claims that this cushion foundation was made with LG's exclusive Violet Lumilayer Technology. This technology creates bright shades of colours not by mixing pigments but by delicately layering different shades of lights. Deriving energy from the colour violet, the strongest wave in the colour spectrum, VDL presents colours that never lose their original radiance no matter how many different shades are layered or mixed.

Packaging

This cushion foundation comes in a simple metallic packaging, with a reflective casing. I personally think it looks sleek and high-end, the only drawback is that it leaves so many fingerprints, which can be rather unflattering.

The inside of the cushion is beige pink, which gives it a girly touch. The cushion also comes with a good quality mirror.

What also distinguishes this cushion foundation to other regular ones of its kind is that the foundation in this product isn't packed in a sponge. Instead, the foundation is obtained through little holes on the metallic pad, once the same is pressed down. Today, many cushion foundations have adopted this method as it's known to be more hygienic, but I believe (don't quote me on this one!) that VDL was the first brand to do this.

Scent
One of the positive features of this cushion is that it doesn't have an overwhelming sweet scent that I know many of you dislike, however I as you can see above in the ingredients list, it does contain fragrance. I can't really detect any specific smell, it's very muted, almost like a sunscreen except a little milder.

This product comes with a refill+extra air puff applicator

Shades

The one thing that really diverted my attention to this foundation were the shades it comes in. Now unlike most Korean face products that only have up to shade #23, this cushion goes one shade darker, which is a HUGE plus in my book. During the colder seasons, I can forgivably wear shade #23 along with some bronzer and contour, however in the summer most Korean BB creams make my face look like this:

(My poor maknae)

VDL's #205 however, suited my skin tone perfectly this summer.

I also believe that this shade doesn't have any traces of that grey undertone many Asian BBs have, which makes it a great option for people with yellow-ier skin tones.

Performance

I found that VDL's air puff is a bit sturdier compared to the EH's one, which can help building up the coverage better. Furthermore, the foundation was very easy to blend and applies very smoothly. I did not, however, feel the so-called "cooling effect" that would supposedly happen due to the metallic cover.

The finish is semi-matte, leaning more towards the matte. If you have oily skin (like myself) I believe the finish of this foundation will suit you.

Coverage

When I was testing out this foundation, I so conveniently enough was going through a mild breakout. You can see from the pictures bellow that my skin was hosting a few pimples, which I guess worked out in my favour as it helps to further test the coverage of the cushion.

In the pictures above, i'm not wearing anything but the Beauty Metal Cushion Foundation, no primer, no setting powder, only the cushion. As you can see, the formula is build-able in terms of coverage. 1 layer will cover up most of the redness along with the large pores. 2 layers conceals all hyper pigmentation, redness, and seamlessly blurs out the overall appearance of the skin.

And in case you couldn't tell from the previous pictures, this foundation also emphasised on my dry areas, such as the one around my pimple.

Longevity

I was blown away by the longevity of this foundation. It definitely is worthy of the Long-Wear tittle. I set it with a little pit of power, and it lasted me the whole day (I used a powder I am familiar with to ensure it was the cushion's work) even through the humid hot weather. Since I have very oily skin, most BBs and foundations start getting greasy and need reapplying after 4-5 hours, however with this one I can go a whole day without needing reapplication.

I swatched the foundation for this review (the swatch can be seen above under right beneath the picture of Dongwoon's ghost face) and wiped off the excess after the picture was taken. The next day (about 22 hours later) I looked at my arm, and the swatch was noticeably still there!! This was what most amazed me about this product. Now after a whole day the shade of the foundation logically darkened due to oxidisation, but the pigment was definitely still there!! Of course my arm isn't even half as oily as my face, so the longevity isn't going to be the same either, but it does prove the long lasting ability of this product.

Pros
-Comes in shade #205
-Very long lasting
-Hygienic packaging
-Good coverage
-Buildable
-Appropriate for oilier skin types

Cons
-Contains fragrance
-Emphasises dry patches
-Reflective packaging leaves fingerprints

Conclusion
Repurchase? Yes! Recommend? If you have oily skin YES! Also, if you are looking for darker shades apart from than the ones the Asian market usually offers. It's long-lasting, has a smooth texture and very buildable coverage.

Before I finish, I would like to thank BBcosmetic for sending me this product!! They are a Korean beauty online store with a great range of brands and products, definitely check them out. Also, use the  coupon code
